Online Help for PowerPoint |
||||||||
The HOW To factor is one of the challenges posed by user based software programs like PowerPoint. Most users want to stretch themselves to the next level in order to create memorable and poignant presentations. Unfortunately an abundance of desire in the absence of know-how does not get you very far. What most users want is a guide on the side. Picture it, a handy know-it all that intuitively knows when you need to know something. Your guide could reveal to you time saving methods, creative techniques for presenting information and advanced techniques for adding music, YouTube videos, or a live link to a pertinent website. While this is never a real possibility when the cost if factored in and because most of us create presentations at home and during odd hours, the good news is that there are a number of very helpful websites available to assist users in navigating through their issues. Office.Microst.com is the old standby for basic help. If you can’t get your question answered here, you probably won’t get an answer anywhere. The only one real requirement is that users should be certain they know what they want to learn or what they need help with. This can be tricky if you are not conversant with tech talk and software speak. If you describe something differently than the language used by Microsoft it will be difficult if not impossible to find the information you seek. So the first step in getting help is to know what it is you require and then to articulate that in terms Microsoft can understand. For example if you are looking for a shortcut to format the titles or other text on each slides in the same way, what you are seeking is Copy Formatting. A search for that will reveal a number of helpful hints that will expedite much of what you need to do. Because Microsoft offers a number of helpful hints and suggestions it is a good idea to read through the Help Articles just to get a sense of what is possible. There good tips on how to avoid embarrassing pop alerts during presentations and what to do if the desktop image doesn’t appear on the screen. Yikes! Such a situation goes well beyond embarrassing into the realm of career limiting moves. So read those tips! |
