Secrets of professional presentation |
||||||||
PowerPointis a powerful tool. The purpose of it is to stimulate interest of an audience.But clumsy made presentation deteriorates its effectiveness. Before you start,read these advices about effective methods of presenting the information.USE SUITABLE BACKGROUNDIf youwould like to communicate serious topic don’t use very vivid background. Inthis case it would be better to use dark colors. Also, looking at white vividslides for twenty minutes gets tiring for the eyes. But everything depends ontopic of your presentation. If you are going to speak about tourism, brightcolors will be very much to the point. ADD YOUR INITIALS TO THEMASTER PAGEThepresentation is a good chance to remain in the memory of an audience. So,insert your initials on the master slide page and they will appear on everyslide. USE COMMON FONTSApresentation is not the place to show that you’ve accumulated the world’slargest collection of fonts. Use common fonts because someday your presentationmay need to be given on a computer that has a different collection of fontsthan your computer has. ANIMATE YOUR BODY, NOTYOUR SLIDESPowerPointhas more than sixty build-in effects and animations for text and graphics. Manypeople use these effects and animations to make their presentations moredynamic. Don’t waste your time trying to adjust unnecessary effects. They willnot make your presentation better. Use your body language to express youremotions and enthusiasm. USE BULLETSManypeople don’t use bullets. They may tell that they have very specificinformation and the bullets will not be very much to the point. Instead ofbullets they prefer to display and read “heavy” blocks of long text. Don’t makesuch mistake. Outline main points with short bursts of text. Otherpeople use bullets, but they put them all up at once. That is also a mistake.Build your bullets: click, bullet 1, explain; click, bullet 2, explain; click,bullet 3, explain. This is the only time you are recommended using animation. USE ONLY ONE LEVEL OFBULLETSIf youwill use “multilevel” bullets, the audience may think that your slide containsinformation, which explains more than one topic. Fix this in your mind: oneslide – one point. The bullets must support this point. USE DIAGRAMS AND GRAPHSUsediagrams and graphs to explain trends and numerical data. If you think that youneed “heavy” paragraph to explain a point, use charts and graphs instead. MAKE PRINTABLE SLIDESAdjusttext and graphics on slides to make them printable. In some cases you shouldmake a handouts for the audience. If you made printable slide layout in advanceit will save your time on the one hand. On the other hand, the members of theaudience will recall the point of your presentation faster than they will readyour twenty pages report.
